Bahamas Vacations and Things to do on Water

Bahamas Vacations are all about fun and excitement in the water as there are bodies of water in every island you can go. Take a careful hike or snorkel with the earth’s oldest organisms the stromatolites algae at the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park in the Exumas Island, a preserved marine sanctuary in the Bahamas filled with all sorts of water flora and fauna. Andros Island houses the Tongue of the Ocean, the third biggest barrier reef in the world, which diving and snorkeling enthusiasts can’t seem to get enough of every time they visit the Bahamas; other water sports are also available at resorts. Dean’s Blue Hole, with a recorded depth of 600 feet, is Long Island’s claim to extreme sports fame as only experienced divers can brave this ocean blue hole and for the rest of the beach goers there’s kayaks, deep sea fishing or snorkeling to enjoy the clear waters. If you love the water, the Bahamas will surely delight you.

Bahamas Vacations: The Berry Islands

A quiet and meditative vacation is what the Berry Islands offer which is unusual for a Caribbean destination. This cluster of small islands or cays is located southeast of Bimini and most of them are inhabited so you are likely to find a place that you can have for yourself for a day. An abundance of thatch berry trees gave the island its name. As with the usual snorkeling and diving activities, you can go sport fishing in the waters that surround the islands. You can also just lounge by the shoreline and get some tan. The annual Berry Island Festival that is held every month of May is arranged by the island’s tourism council to educate tourists on the ways of the local people as well as highlight the island’s rich natural resources. This island is definitely a place to go for some private time either by you or with someone.

Bahamas Vacations: Bimini

If you’re going on Bahamas Vacations don’t fail to visit Bimini Island and discover its extraordinary beauty that seduced Ernest Hemingway, the famous writer and poet who was also a gifted fisherman of his time. For divers, being able to see up to two hundred feet deep is a rare and welcome treat that only the waters of the Bahamas can offer and in Bimini Island, explorers found limestone blocks neatly arranged as if to form a road which they say may belong to the Lost City of Atlantis which they called Bimini Road; it’s only about twenty feet deep and easily accessible. Bimini may be the smallest of the Out Islands but its beaches definitely don’t lack the size as evidenced by the Tiki Hut Beach, a two mile stretch of pure white sand that highlights the beautiful vegetation of the island and makes for one amazing picture. If you’re looking to add more to your knowledge, make a dive run at the wreck of the Sapona Liberty ship which was where liquor traffickers stored their goods during the time of the prohibition. Bimini Island is beautiful and its lingering mystique will make you come back for more.

Grand Bahama Island and Bahamas Vacations

Grand Bahama Island, like other islands in the Bahamas, is a beach lover’s paradise but to go on Bahamas Vacations there entails more than sand and surf but also embracing its colorful history and sharing it with the local people. Pine trees would never survive the tropical climate, it’s a common perception; one that is easily busted when you visit the Lucayan National Park where they not only survive but multiply by the thousands which is a testament to how diverse the natural environment in the Bahamas is. Home to 18 species of birds that can only be found in the Bahamas, Rand Nature Center is frequented by bird lovers as well as regular tourists; more than a hundred indigenous plants are also grown there. Xanadu Beach is popular for having a wide range of water sports to choose from but they are not the only reason why visitors prefer staying here; straw products hand strewn and crafted abound in many shops and local stores in the place. Keeping its rural ambience alive yet teeming with modern facilities, Grand Bahama Island is a good place to have a vacation.
